Besides our core work programme of lobbying local authorities, public service providers and government for inclusion, and legislative and policy improvements for LGB people in Wales, we will focus on the following key strategic objectives for the next 3 years:
1. Community development - to enable LGB people to play a full part in their communities by helping LGB community groups and services and increasing knowledge of local LGB service needs within public and private bodies.
Key target: To establish regional LGB group networks covering Wales by 2008.
2. Education - to make school a safer and fairer place for young LGB people by reducing the number of young LGB people who suffer homophobic bullying and working to combat underachievement by LGB pupils.
Key target: Information provided to all secondary schools in Wales by 2008.
3. Employment - to make work a fairer place for LGB people by reducing the number of LGB people who experience discrimination and harassment at work because of their sexual orientation.
Key target: Individual advice and support provided to over 150 Welsh employers on work place discrimination issues for LGB people by 2008.
4. Fair life chances - to ensure equitable access to goods and services in the public and private sectors by promoting fair treatment of LGB people, with particular emphasis on work with the health service and local government.
Key target: Over 25% of Welsh local authorities and health boards to have taken action to make their services fairer for LGB people by 2008.
5. Changing attitudes - to improve public attitudes towards LGB people by challenging overt and residual prejudice against LGB people in the public domain and promoting the positive contribution LGB people make to life in Wales.
Key target: To reduce the level of discrimination felt by LGB people in Wales because of their portrayal in the Welsh media.
6. Community safety - to reduce homophobic hate crime by working with the police, community safety partnerships and Crown Prosecution Services [CPS] in order to increase: police awareness, number of incidents reported, and number of cases brought leading to prosecution.
