Stonewall Cymru's Election campaign

We wanted to make sure lesbian, gay and bisexual voters have all the information needed in order to make an informed choice in the voting booth at the National Assembly for Wales 2007 Elections.

On this page you will find information about Stonewall Cymru's 2007 Election Campaign:

Stonewall Cymru's Manifesto

Our Manifesto listed five demands for a better Wales:

  • Schools free from homophobic bullying: we want every school in Wales to challenge anti-gay bullying.
  • Homophobic hate crime tackled as a priority: We want hate crime taken seriously so that lesbians and gay men can feel safe in their communities.
  • Our needs recognised by public services: We want public services such as healthcare, housing and policing to meet the specific needs of gay people.
  • Our communities represented in the Assembly: Lesbian, gay and bisexual people make up 6% of the population but we're grossly underrepresented in the Assembly.
  • Fair treatment for all: We want the new equality body in Wales to represent our interests and improve public attitudes towards the lesbian and gay community.

'Use your Vote' campaign

We produced two postcards urging LGB voters to vote for a candidate who can really make a difference.

The 'Use your Vote' campaign encouraged lesbian and gay people to question prospective candidates about their commitment to gay equality and ask how they will take that work forward in their constituency. Lesbian and gay voters could send these postcards to candidates to find out where they stood on key issues.
