Eisteddfod meeting to address the needs of Welsh speaking lesbian, gay and bisexual people

Stonewall Cymru's is hosting a meeting at the National Eisteddfod on Saturday 5 August at 1230 to discuss whether lesbian, gay and bisexual Welsh speakers in Wales are receiving fair treatment in health, housing, education and employment. The Eisteddfod meeting will also launch The All Wales Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Survey 2006, Stonewall Cymru's largest survey of lesbian and gay life in Wales.

Adam Price MP will discuss the importance of researching the needs of lesbian, gay and bisexual people and Helen Mary Jones AM will highlight the Welsh Assembly's role in implementing new protections for lesbian, gay and bisexual people in the provision of goods, facilities and services.

Dr Alison Parken, Director, Stonewall Cymru says, 'We have heard from our Welsh speaking supporters that it is often difficult to access advice services in your preferred language. We also know there is a lack of appropriate language to discuss same-sex relationships in Welsh and this can mean having to talk about your sexuality in English. If English is not your first language then trying to explain your needs can be quite difficult.'

Dr Parken added, 'We are delighted to be hosting what we're sure will be an informative meeting at the National Eisteddfod.'

The meeting will be held between 1230 and 130pm in the Sbardun Pavilion. A buffet will be provided.
