Stonewall Leadership programme 2008

27th & 28th November, Henley Business School

The focus of the Leadership programme this year is effective leadership through authenticity and aims to explore the impact of sexual orientation.  Delegates explore these issues with other lesbian, gay and bisexual professionals in a safe environment.

Successful delegates will consider a current leadership challenge for them over the two days through action learning sets and co-coaching sessions, alongside the stimulus and challenge of other participants and leading thinkers in the field.

Successful applicants will be senior lesbian, gay or bisexual leaders from a variety of sectors.

The programme is open for applications the first week of September with a closing date of Monday 6 October 2008.

This year the Leadership Programme is being kindly supported by Morgan Stanley.

Leadership programme 2008

Objective:

To provide individual gay employees with new skills and inspiration to be better leaders in the workplace, benefitting both them and their organisation.

Benefits for the individual:

  • Challenge your existing behaviours and preconceptions of what leadership is all about in order to realise your potential - understand your capacity to impact others and affect change
  • Acquire new skills to help you manage and interact better in a range of business situations, increasing your capacity to achieve positive outcomes
  • Understand the barriers to exercising effective leadership, whether they arise externally or from within yourself
  • Network with senior openly gay professionals across the private, public and third sectors

Benefits for the organisation:

  • Build organisational capacity, creating a more diverse future leadership team - 60% of world CEOs cite lack of employee skills as the main barrier in transforming their organisation
  • Improve retention of your LGB staff through demonstrating your willingness to develop their talent
  • Improve the productivity of your people - they perform better when they can be themselves and some research suggests there's a 20-30% productivity cost for closeted employees
  • Demonstrate to your employees and other stakeholders your commitment to workplace diversity, improving your reputation and creating positive PR

Audience:

Lesbian, gay and bisexual staff from all sectors with the potential to be senior decision makers within five years.  Typically, participants will already be highly credible within their organisation, at middle management level with a 5-10 year proven track record of delivery.
