Stonewall Cymru on the importance of ensuring access to the full curriculum

Andrew White, Director of Stonewall Cymru said:

‘We welcome the Welsh Government's commitment to create an inclusive education system. The Government's plan promises to be an enormous step forward that builds on the good practice already happening in many of our schools.

‘Inclusive and effective Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) ensures all young people receive the information they need to stay safe, make informed decisions, have healthy relationships and prepare for life in Wales in the 21st century. We support the introduction of high-quality, LGBT-inclusive and mandatory RSE for all young people in Wales.

‘Looking ahead, it’s vital schools are given what they need to teach RSE in a way that benefits young people from all backgrounds. This means the Government must devote time to engage with parents and guardians to explain what this teaching includes and why it’s so important. To make inclusive RSE a reality, it’s essential that the Welsh Government invests more in training and resources to prepare teachers and schools to deliver high-quality, LGBT-inclusive teaching now and in the future.’
