COVID-19: Stand in solidarity with the LGBT community

I hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe during this difficult period.

I wanted to share with you Stonewall’s response to the impacts of Covid-19 on LGBT communities, to say thank you for your continued support and to encourage us all to help each other.

First off, please know that if you are feeling anxious or concerned, you’re not alone. We’re all facing some very difficult changes in our lives, and a lot of uncertainty. And we know that vulnerable and marginalised people, and their communities, are always the hardest hit in times like these.

This includes lesbian, gay, bi and trans people, who experience high rates of homelessness, poor health and domestic abuse in Britain today.

LGBT people have a strong and proud history of uniting in the face of a crisis.

But we also know that LGBT people have a strong and proud history of uniting in the face of a crisis and protecting the most vulnerable around us. We want to thank you for your support for equality for all LGBT people. This is work we continue to do together, gladly, for one another, whatever the challenges we face.  

For the time being, we are postponing or suspending our in-person programmes and events, and staff in all offices are working from home, as many others are now. We’ve taken these steps because the health of our colleagues, supporters and friends must take priority. 

Our work isn’t stopping – far from it.

But our work isn’t stopping – far from it. A donation today, no matter how small, will allow us to continue to deliver our work in new ways. We have already developed resources to support pupils and families learning from home, but we have much more we want to offer to all LGBT communities.

This is a time of crisis for our country and many of the countries where our global partners operate, and we’ll be here to ensure that LGBT people are not excluded from the support they need, and that as we emerge from this our rights and protections are safeguarded as we rebuild.

It’s also more important now than ever that we stand in solidarity with all marginalised groups.

It’s also more important now than ever that we stand in solidarity with all marginalised groups. We’ve already seen a rise in hate crime against people of colour, and it’s clear that disabled people, older people, and people living in poverty are some of those most at risk in the current climate. 

That's why it's vital that the Government’s response to this crisis has the needs of marginalised groups at its heart.

We'll continue to closely monitor the impact of COVID-19, and the Coronavirus Act, on lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities, to do what we can to support the health and wellbeing of everyone in our community.
