How are you involved in campaigning for LGBT equality?

In 2015 I co-founded the campaigning group and charity Time for Inclusive Education (TIE) with Liam Stevenson. TIE has one aim: to tackle homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia with LGBT-inclusive education in schools. We have effectively been untangling the toxic legacy left by Section 28 - from delivering services to lobbying. In November 2018, Scotland became the first country in the world to adopt LGBT-inclusive education in all public schools - and our campaign won!

What made you want campaign for LGBT equality?

My own experience at school was tarnished by homophobia, and at TIE we are committed to ensuring that tomorrow's generations do not have to endure that. As a community, we have such a rich and inspiring history but I didn't know anything about it until my adult life - we want the young people of today to learn about the LGBT icons who have fought so hard for the rights that we have; to understand the prejudice faced by our community both past and present, and to know about our journey towards equality.

What is your hope for the future of LGBT equality?

That we continue making progress, and remember that we only win together when we stand together. With the current climate on trans equality, and schools protests, it's so important that we are a visible, vocal collective.
